To keep growing kids safe and comfortable while in transit, many parents buy a series of car seats. Eddie Bauer stylishly simplifies matters with the 3-in-1 Elite car seat in the Mercer pattern. Designed to fit and protect children from 5 to 100 pounds, the seat can be used rear-facing, front-facing, and as a booster, so it’s suitable for newborns as well as eight-year-olds. For infant and toddler use, the seat fastens with either a seatbelt or the LATCH system; in booster mode, it works easily with seatbelts. In keeping with the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Elite accommodates up to 35 pounds in the infant mode, so kids are sure to face backwards up to 1 year. For comfort and ease of use, the design also includes a simply accessed recline adjustment and a wide, adjustable, twist-resistant harness. Smart on structure, the seat is along long on luxuries, with a padded headrest, an infant head support, a cup holder, flip-up armrests, and a removable, machine-wash pad. One word of warning: Due to its generous sizing, the Elite will fit best in mid- to large-size vehicles. --Emily Bedard
